The Draadzaak Advent Calendar 2024

It's actually way too early to be thinking about Christmas, and yet now is the time to order your Draadzaak Advent Calendar. The advantage of ordering now: by November, you'll have long since forgotten that you ordered an Advent calendar. So it will be an even bigger surprise, and I'll have plenty of time to make it something truly beautiful ;-)

Just like with the Yarn Clubs, I've made some changes to the Draadzaak Advent Calendar as well. This year, you can choose between the familiar plant-based calendar (dyed on bamboo or cotton, in various yarn weights) and a merino yarn Advent Calendar! The days of the 24-mini skeins are over, because this year I'm dyeing the Advent on 100 gram skeins.

I'll ensure that opening the package at each Advent Sunday will be a little party, with some treats included, of course. And to top it all off, this year a pattern by Alita from Atelier Aolt is included, both in crochet and knitting!

The options available this year are:

• 4x 100 gram Merino fingering weight (75% Merino / 25% nylon, 100g / 425m)
• 4x 100 gram Merino DK weight (75% Merino / 25% nylon, 100g / 225m)
• 4x 100 gram Pima cotton light fingering (100g/ 400m)
• 4x 100 gram Pima cotton DK (100g/ 200m)
• 4x 100 gram Bamboo light fingering (100g/ 400m)

And perhaps most importantly: this year, I didn't make just one, but three mood boards for you to choose from!!

If you've ever watched my podcast, you'll know that environmental sustainability and animal welfare are close to my heart. Unfortunately, the production process of cotton and bamboo isn't as environmentally conscious as I'd like it to be, but I do have control over my own production process. That's why I use (clean) rainwater for 90% of the dyeing process and use dyes that are not environmentally harmful and can be broken down by bacteria in water treatment. Additionally, the centrifuge runs on electricity from solar panels on our roof, and I dye as much as possible during good weather conditions, so the wind can help with drying the yarn. The wool I use in my webshop is mulesing-free.

What can you expect in terms of colors?
That depends on which Advent calendar you choose :) The mood boards at the top of this page give a good indication of the atmosphere of the different Advent calendars.
 

Extra option: an exclusive mug

In recent years, you've been able to order a project bag with your Advent Calendar. Despite the beauty of the bags made by Inge from Hobbybags, I wanted to offer something different this year (there's a very exciting collaboration with Inge coming later this year ;-)). So, I asked Ingrid (@ik_stook on Instagram) whether she would be willing to collaborate this year and create a handcrafted and glazed mug to complement the Advent Calendar. And she said yes! Each mood board will have its own unique mug, how cool is that?!

A few 'housekeeping' matters:

• This Advent Calendar is sold as a pre-order. So, you won't receive your order immediately.
• The Advent Calendar will be shipped in the first half of November. You'll receive an email notification (with tracking information) once your package has been dispatched. If you reside in the Netherlands, you won't incur any additional shipping costs. If you live outside the Netherlands, shipping costs will be automatically calculated at checkout.
• I kindly ask you not to order any other items along with the Advent Calendar, as it is logistically impossible to ensure that the correct Advent Calendar, with the correct additional items, reaches the right customer.
• For Advent Calendars dyed on plant-based yarn, the yarn is 100% vegan. However, the treats that I'll be adding may not all be 100% vegan. If you would like a 100% vegan Advent Calendar, please leave a note in the comments section you'll see while in the payment module. That way, I can take that into account.
